City of Culture

PiCL were commissioned by Stoke on Trent City Council, Arts Connect and Stoke's Cultural Education Partnership to deliver consultation workshops with 10 groups of young people across the City.

We thought the best way to do this was by making our own cultural board game, based on Monopoly. The culture became the streets, their counter, the things they enjoyed doing. Chance was the ways they found out about culture and the jail was made up of the things that stopped them going.

They then created their own 'houses' made up of the cultural venues they liked to visit and chose where they would most like to spend their money.

This informed Stoke on Trent's shortlisted UK City of Culture bid, and the young people and stakeholders now have their own cultural monopoly board.
