PROJECT: DIGITAL CREATIVITY
St Margaret Ward Catholic High School have embarked on a two year journey to embrace ICT and digital media to develop thinking, teaching and learning.
They have devised a strategy of curriculum development, working with lead partner Pablo Productions Ltd, to equip 10 members of the teaching staff and 2 technicians to meet the challenges of co-managing learning with 21st Century students and digital media. The school have also developed a Virtual Learning Environment - in consultation with James Green. A long term relationship with the Government agency BECTA (British Educational Communications and Technology Agency) has been successfully brokered. The staff have been able to work with partners John Davitt (broadcaster, writer and digital specialist) and Pablo Productions in the classroom to test and evaluate the newly developed digital tools.
The school wanted to harness the students knowledge and ability to use technology and through the programme raise their aspirations and attainment. Students created a Young Consultants group in order to run a creative consultation - enabling them to explore, record and document their ideas surrounding ICT in school. This has also been an instrumental part of their learning journey to become global citizens.
This past year has been about the planning and delivery, the 09/10 academic year will see the embedding of creative approaches to teaching and learning.
